If there was one word that could be used to describe successful internet advertising, that word would be context. By keeping adverts in context, along the lines of what people are trying to find when looking at your site, you can improve the returns from your adverts exponentially.
Its also important that you don't have intrusive advertising. Many internet browsers today offer a facility called "adblock", which allows people to shut down advertisements they don't like. This is not something that a lot of websites will tell you, of course, but it is a fact. By keeping your advertisements clear (while not being dumbed down) and non intrusive, you can realise far greater capitalisation from your ad.
